When you are trying to decide where to plant roots and raise your family, lots of factors go in to your decision. Schools, job opportunities, cost of living and more all factor in to where you want to buy a home and raise your family. Mike Anderson at NerdWallet, a consumer advocacy website, has helped take some of the guess work out by compiling a list of the 10 best towns in Alabama for young families - 3 of which are near Birmingham.
Vestavia Hills, Pelham and Trussville all made the list based on their public school's performance, median home value and ongoing cost of home ownership.
Vestavia Hills ranked #7 on the list and was noted for its award winning school district. Also mentioned is the fact that 96% of its students go onto college. This city also is a host to some great amenities including amazing city parks, playgrounds, and sports complexes for football, baseball and soccer.
Pelham came in at #8 and has Alabama's largest state park encompassed in it's city limits, Oak Mountain. At 9,940 acres, Oak Mountain offers families visiting it resources for camping, hiking, biking, horse riding, boating and fishing. There is also a golf course as part of the park.
Trussville rounds out the list at #10. The cities school system is the community's largest employer and Trussville holds one of the highest median household incomes on the list.
